MASON GALLERY · PRO/MASTER LAB
Fine Art Photography Review & Development
PRESERVE THE VISION.
DISCOVER THE POTENTIAL.
ELEVATE THE WORK.
Mason Gallery PRO/MASTER LAB is a space for curatorial review and fine art photography development, designed to analyze, understand, and strengthen a body of work without supplanting the author's vision.
Each photograph is examined in terms of its intent, composition, visual narrative, lighting, atmosphere, detail, and artistic identity.
The process identifies elements that should be preserved, as well as aspects that can be developed to elevate the work to its full potential.
The goal is not to transform the photograph into a different piece of work, but to discover the extent of its possibilities while ensuring it remains true to its author.
THE PROCESS
GAZE→ PROTECTED POINTS → READING → DEVELOPMENT → REFINEMENT → RESULT
Each stage has a specific function: first understand the photograph, protect what defines its identity and develop only the aspects whose intervention can benefit the work.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
01 · INCOME
The photographer presents the original work and completes the information necessary to understand its intention and context.
02 · INDEPENDENT READING
Mason Gallery carries out a curatorial reading of photography and identifies its visual structure, strengths, opportunities and points that must remain protected.
03 · DEVELOPMENT
Specific and justified recommendations are presented. The photographer retains the decision at all times about the changes he wishes to make
04 · REREADING
The new version is analyzed again to determine if the changes really benefited the work. Not every change represents an improvement.
05 · RESULT
The process concludes when the work reaches its best state within the methodology or when continuing to intervene stops providing a clearly identifiable benefit.
The LAB can make recommendations. The artist can decide. The work must justify the result.
HOW WE EVALUATE A WORCK
Each photograph is evaluated based on seven criteria that allow for the analysis of its visual construction as well as its identity, development, and level of closure.
01 · Photographic vision and intent — 20 points
02 · Composition and visual structure — 15 points
03 · Viewer engagement and visual hierarchy — 15 points
04 · Light, color, and atmosphere — 15 points
05 · Detail, texture, and technical resolution — 10 points
06 · Artistic identity and impact — 15 points
07 · Integrity of the work and level of completion — 10 points
TOTAL · 100 POINTS
FROM SCORE TO RESULT
The score guides the assessment but does not determine the final result on its own. Each classification represents the stage of development the work has reached within the Mason Gallery PRO/MASTER LAB methodology.
IN DEVELOPMENT · 0–94.9
The work retains aspects that could still benefit from clearly identified further development.
PRO · 95–97.4
The work demonstrates a solid professional level, with well-established identity, structure, and visual readability.
HIGH PRO · 97.5–98.9
The work has reached an advanced stage of consolidation. Any potential adjustments are minimal and must be fully justified.
MASTER · 99–100
The work has achieved an exceptional level of consolidation within the Mason Gallery PRO/MASTER LAB methodology.
Further modification might no longer yield any real benefit.
MASTER STATUS DOES NOT DEPEND SOLELY ON THE SCORE
To achieve MASTER status, in addition to falling within the corresponding numerical range, the work must pass four qualitative checks:
PRESERVATION · IDENTITI · READABILITY · COMPLETION
Potential guides the process. The final work determines the classification.
The score applies to the work and its stage of development; it is not a rating of the artist.
WHAT DOES THE PHOTOGRAPHER RECEIVE?
Each project undertaken within PRO/MASTER LAB generates a documented process that allows for an understanding of its evolution from inception to the final result.
RECORD 01 · INTAKE
Registration of the original photograph, information provided by the author, and the starting point of the process.
RECORD 02 · DEVELOPMENT
Documentation of the LAB reading, protected points, assessment, recommendations, adjustments made, and re-readings of the work.
RECORD 03 · RESULT
Record of the photograph's final state, justified score, classification achieved, and conclusion of the process.
A WORK · A PROCESS · A RECORD
The photographer maintains a record of the evolution of their work and the decisions that led to its final result.
Participation in PRO/MASTER LAB does not guarantee a specific classification. The outcome depends exclusively on the stage the work reaches within the methodology.
AUTHORSHIP AND CREATIVE CONTROL
The photograph belongs to its author. The LAB supports the development of the work without overriding the photographer's artistic decisions.
AUTHORSHIP REMAINS WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Mason Gallery PRO/MASTER LAB does not acquire ownership rights to the photograph through participation in the process.
THE ARTIST RETAINS FINAL DECISION-MAKING POWER
The LAB’s recommendations are proposals for development. The photographer decides which ones to implement and may halt the process whenever deemed necessary.
THE ORIGINAL WORK IS RESPECTED
The LAB’s assessment identifies the photograph's protected elements before recommending changes that might affect its identity.
PRIVACY AND PUBLICATION
Participation in the LAB does not imply automatic authorization to publish, promote, or exhibit the photograph. Any public use by Mason Gallery requires the photographer's authorization.
DIRECT IMAGE INTERVENTION
Analysis and recommendations do not automatically imply that Mason Gallery will modify the file. Any direct editing performed by the LAB requires specific authorization from the photographer and, where applicable, must be part of a service contracted for that purpose.
THE VISION BELONGS TO THE PHOTOGRPHER.
THE LAB HELPS PROTECT AND DEVELOP IT.
